Waves.is is the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administrations (IRCA) weather and seastate information system. The system is based on both real-time measurements and forecasts from IRCA, Icelandic Met Office and European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). Maps are provided from National Land Survey of Iceland and Open Street Maps. Measurement data can be accessed in open webservices at gagnaveita.vegagerdin.is
Wave forecast in coastal waters
IRCA provides forecasts in coastal waters in a number of areas around Iceland. These forecasts can be viewed by clicking the areas on the map or the dropdown list.
Disclaimer
Data from measuring instruments, such as weather stations and wave buoys, are not reviewed when they appear on the map and are therefore published with the reservation that they may be inaccurate.
This website is still under development. Older version of this information system can be accessed on IRCA‘s website, vegagerdin.is
Instructions
You can select a location, point, on the map and view forecasts for wave height, direction and period as well as weather and tidal forecasts.
If information from a certain wave buoy is viewed, both measurement data and forecast is displayed, and it is important to distinguish between the two. This data can be viewed in both graphical representation and tables.
This website was developed by IRCA and Kolofon and is operated by IRCA.
